Sorgente Cornish Holiday Cottage accommodation details

Completely refurbished ready for our first season in 2010 to a very high standard, all modifications meet the relevant safety standards and building regulations and have reduced our carbon footprint in many areas of the redesign. This includes fitting double-glazed windows and doors, roof and wall insulation, and a Villavent heat recovery system. Where possible we have returned to traditional skills and building materials that befit a property first built around 1850. Regular maintenance and redecoration is undertaken during the year and in 2016 we made yet more improvements redesigning the stairs. We are pleased that we are able to offer accommodation more suited to asthma and allergy sufferers and therefore we have a strict non-smoking, no pets policy. Our cleaner doesn't wait for spring to do a spring clean!

Accommodates four people with:

Luxury Bathroom
Double Bedroom
Twin Bedroom
Kitchen and Dining room
Cottage Garden and BBQ area

The cottage is decorated with original art by local artists including paintings, photography and sculpture. More of which can be found at Artsake, but if you wish, you may also purchase some of the works in the cottage and take them away with you. Please contact us for details.

bath and rain shower - Sorgente Holiday Cottage

Sorgente is an Italian word meaning SOURCE, usually used for water source but can also be used for the source of energy. Our bathroom was not the reason we chose this name for our holiday cottage but you'd be forgiven for thinking so! We have high water pressure and a large gas combi boiler that delivers copious amounts of water through our rain shower.

We added the luxury of a bidet and a bath large enough for two and to avoid using shower curtains. Tiled completely using Italian porcelain adds to the luxurious experience, bathing not only in water but also in lots of light, including natural light from a large skylight window.

Due to the heat recovery system there are no noisy fans each time you switch on the light and no more steamy mirrors!

The bathroom is upstairs convieniently situated between the twin bedroom and the master bedroom.

Please note: The bath is high-sided and wide, the contemporary shower is not walk-in and there are no hand rails. There are no shower curtains, the floor gets wet yes, but under normal use even with very enthusiastic kids, the amount never forms puddles and dries quickly. These things should be considered carefully if any guests are elderly and/or physically infirm.

Double bedroom - Sorgente Holiday Cottage

The master bedroom is situated at the rear of the property with two double-glazed modern windows over-looking the cottage garden. The standard-sized double bed has a firm orthopedic-type mattress, and matching bedside tables and chest of draws with mirror. Lights can be operated from bedside too. The floor is of solid oak and feels great under bare feet, even in the winter, although the house shoes provided may be more to your liking.

The Twin bedroom - Sorgente Holiday Cottage

Sorgente's twin bedroom has two standard singles with luxury mattresses, ample storage space and access around the room. As with all the rooms, the floors are in natural wood, and in this case has been finished with bees wax, so it feels very smooth even under bare feet. With traditional box sash windows, built using sound proofing and double glazing, you're sure to sleep snuggly at night. The generously sized luxury bathroom is situated on the same floor between the two bedrooms for easy access.

Living room with wood burning stove - Sorgente Holiday Cottage

A wood burning stove for those cozy evenings any time of the year, although not essential for heating especially in the summer months. During winter months this provides enough heat for the house even without the gas central heating! Dry seasoned logs can be provided for your arrival, but we ask that you order them at least a week before your arrival. We also provide a list of places where these can be bought locally. Other solid fuels such as coal, briquettes, coalite and the compressed wood chip-type logs etc., cannot be used.

To further enjoy this spacious area with natural wooden floor, we have provided 'house shoes' (slippers) for your comfort. Two large sofas provide comfortable seating whether watching a Blu-ray/DVD film, reading or merely relaxing.

If you are staying for the Christmas/New Year weeks then we can also provide a Christmas tree with lights if you give us good notice.

Kitchen and dining room - Sorgente Holiday Cottage

The kitchen is very well equipped with many extras you'd not expect to find, as well as those you would, such as microwave, washing machine and a four rack toaster. Situated between the living room and the garden, the kitchen with dining area allows light to penetrate the whole ground floor through its large double glazed patio windows. Porcelain tiled flooring compliments the warmer colours of the deep beech worktop used within the kitchen area, and the tiles in the garden.

Add fresh herbs to your cooking direct from the garden, you'll find rosemary and thyme growing in the Cornish hedge and other tasty seasonals in nooks, crannies and sometimes in pots. All cooking, hot water and heating is with gas.

Most people realise tap water contains chemicals which have been added during water treatment or have leached from other polluting sources. So we have installed a filtration system with a tap for your convenience, no more buying bottled water! This Pozzani water filter removes up to 95% of most heavy metals, including lead, aluminium, iron, copper and cadmium, as well as removing up to 90% of dissolved organic material (such as pesticides, herbicides and oil residues). Chlorine removal is very good indeed (up to 99%), hence the water odour and taste is significantly improved.

Cornish hedged garden - Sorgente holiday cottage, Cornwall

A cottage wouldn't be complete without a garden and ours can be a real sun trap. Overlooked by the double bedroom, the garden is easily accessible from the kitchen using the large sliding patio door.

It has been redesigned and rebuilt using traditional Cornish hedging as the boundary walls. These are similar to dry stone walls because they use no mortar in their construction, although Cornish walls make use of the soil knitted together by the roots of wild plants and flowers. In our walls you will find many wild flowers and herbs, also useful in the Kitchen.

It is on two levels and we advise that children should be supervised especially on the upper level. The lower part, paved in black limestone, is an ideal spot for hanging out any washing or perhaps even your wet suits. You will find a storage box for the folded garden furniture.

During the 2016 season the BBQ (seen in the images on this website) was removed to create more usable space in the garden. A new BBQ space has been built into the wall, this may be used for your own portable/disposable charcoal barbecues.

Whilst we cannot provide off-street private parking, there is usually a spot directly in front of the cottage. Sometimes you may have to park a little way up the hill, on-street parking is free. We have a polite notice asking people to keep clear for disable access. We have nice neighbours who respect each others need to park as close to home as possible. However, this is a public highway therefore anyone is allowed to park there.
You may also find spaces opposite the cottage at the entrance to a business property. Usually MONDAY TO FRIDAY 07:00-17:00 THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE, however, at time of writing the property is vacant  therefore you may be able to park here all week.
Parking is free near the cottage, there are no meters. In Falmouth parking is not free and often time limited. There is a park and ride, and park and float not far from Sorgente.

"Dear Alex and Sabrina, we had a wonderful time in Cornwall and Sorgente was a lovely place for relaxing between our journeys. We really felt comfortable, the cottage is very well equipped. Thank you! Back home we will have a lot of pictures in our minds: the width of the sea, the beautiful landscape, lovely villages and even an english picnic (Food jam at Ennys Garden). Thank you for the welcome pack and your friendly and informative emails! "
